The National Irish Safety Organisation and the Northern Ireland Safety
Group have launched their 19th Annual Occupational Safety Awards scheme.
The 19th Annual Occupational Safety Awards is run on an all-Island
partnership between the National Irish Safety Organisation and the
Northern Ireland Safety Group. The Awards Scheme is well recognised as
an important event in the annual safety calendar and is supported by
the Construction Industry Federation. Over its 19 years the awards
scheme has seen many innovations reflected in the constant growth in
the number of entries.
The awards provide entrants with an opportunity to include in their
submissions areas where they have demonstrated 'Superior Performance'
in the operation of health and safety management practice. Information
was sought from applicants in nine major areas
• Health and Safety Management
• Hazard Identification and Risk Management
• Implementation and Operation of Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
• Emergency Preparedness and Response
• Health and Safety Communication, Consultation and Promotion
• Health and Safety Training
• Proactive Health and Safety Management
• Reactive Health and Safety Management
• Demonstration of Superior Performance in Health and Safety
It is this constant innovation and updating of the awards process that
has established it as the most prestigious health and safety award
scheme throughout Ireland. Many companies and organisations pride
themselves on the solid contributions they make towards improving
health and safety not only in their own organisation but also passing
on the message to suppliers, contractors, visitors, etc.
Companies and organisations use the awards scheme as a showcase for
their health and safety performance, highlighting to the public and
business communities the positive efforts that good management
practices make in delivering safe and healthy workplaces and work
sites.
Entry to the competition is open to all companies and organisations
whether providing a product or service in the private sector, public
sector or not for profit sector. Entries are accepted from the company
or organisation as a whole, a particular branch, plant, department,
office or site. As the number of submissions increase, the awards
scheme each year continues to evolve and expand. In recent years new
business award categories have been introduced to accommodate the
varied industry sectors now participating in the scheme.
These are prestigious awards to win and lead to an increased profile
for the company or organisation, its employees, its subcontractors and
the companies in its supply chain. An independent panel of health and
safety professionals judge the awards. Their involvement underscores
the prestigious nature of the scheme.
