NISO / NISG All Ireland Safety and General Knowledge Quiz

The National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) and Northern Ireland Safety Group (NISG) are voluntary bodies dedicated to the promotion of Health and Safety in the workplace. Both NISO and NISG organise the Annual All Ireland Safety and General Knowledge quizzes as an innovative way of promoting health and safety in the workplace.

Why Enter?
Organisations are encouraged to participate in what is an entertaining and sociable evening while at the same time
participants who enter are more likely to retain more information on health and safety than from other sources. Participants tend to bring back and heighten the safety awareness culture within their own organisations.

Northern Ireland - 7.00pm, 19 February 2010; Wellington Park Hotel, Belfast
West Region - 8.00pm, 4 March 2010; Oranmore Lodge Hotel, Oranmore, Co Galway
Mid West Region - 8.00pm, 11 March 2010; Greenhills Hotel, Limerick
North West Region - 8.00pm, 12 March 2010; Sligo City Hotel, Sligo
North East Region - 8.00pm, 24 March 2010; Fairways Hotel, Dundalk, Co Louth
East Region - 7.30pm, 25 March 2010; Green  Isle Hotel, Newlands Cross, Dublin 22
Midland Region - 8.00pm, 25 March 2010; Bridge House Hotel, Tullamore, Co Offaly
Southern Region - 7.30pm, 9 April 2010; Oriel House Hotel, Ballincollig, Co Cork
South East Region - Date to be confirmed [Organisations in counties Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny and Carlow may enter the quiz in another region if a date has not been set at the time of booking].

What's new for 2010
  • The Quiz has the support of the Health and Safety Authority and the Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland.
  • As well as being a Safety and General Knowledge Quiz, the quiz [finals] will also entail observation style questions.
  • The Safety and General Knowledge Quiz will be held as a table quiz [no individual questions] at both Regional / NI and All Ireland levels.
  • There will be no All Ireland Semi Finals - Novice and Previous Entrants teams that progress from each Regions / NI will progress directly to the All Ireland Safety Quiz Finals.
  • All participating teams in the All Ireland Finals will receive a Certificate of Participation.
 Competition Categories
• Novice Category - for beginners!
• Previous Entrants Category - for the more experienced!
The winners of both categories will proceed to the All Ireland Finals to be held on 24 April 2010 in Belfast.

Prizes
All organisations who progress from the Regional competitions and participate in the All Ireland Safety Finals will receive a Certificate of Participation. Valuable prizes are awarded to the winners and runners up, in addition to the prestige gained from participating at All Ireland level.

How are the questions sourced?
Many of the safety questions will be sourced from the NISO quiz book. The balance of the questions may be taken from a number of reliable sources and will comprise of health/safety/welfare, observation and general knowledge questions.

How do we organise a team?
Companies - Why not arrange to hold an in-house quiz in your own company before your local quiz night. Contact your safety manager / officer or local NISO committee.
Individuals - Contact your local NISO committee for details.

Regional Safety Quiz Format:
The Safety Table quiz comprises of teams of up to 4 persons. The winning team from both the Novice and Previous Entrants categories proceed to the All Ireland Semi-Finals on Saturday, 24 April 2010, in the Wellington Park Hotel, Belfast.
The All Ireland Finals will also be a table quiz.

All Ireland Safety Quiz Finals Format
The Novice and Previous Entrants Finals will be a table quiz comprising of teams of up to 4 persons. This year there will be no questions asked to individuals. The top two teams from both the Novice and Previous Entrants categories will emerge as winners and runner ups of the All Ireland Finals.

Quiz Rules and Categories
There is no limit to the number of teams that an organisation may enter.
